ST DOMINIC'S COLLEGE is situated in Welkom, the warm heart of the Goldfields, 250km from Johannesburg and 170km from Bloemfontein. With over 700 pupils, it is the largest independent co-educational boarding school in the Free State.
We do not describe ourselves lightly as the St Dominic's “family”. There is an essential partnership between child, parent and school if the educational journey is to be a successful one.
A recent academic study has shown that there is a direct relationship between the level of parents' involvement with the school and the children 's success at negotiating the ways of learning. So, we encourage parents to spend time and energy with us as we strive to make education a rewarding and valuable process.
Our school's vision can be accomplished if we all pursue vigorously the areas of excellence we have identified:
Spiritual and Moral growth
“The school that does not address the deep spiritual needs of its' children is not a school', writes a well known educationist. Our vision sets forth this ideal in its opening paragraph.
Academic Excellence
Our outstanding Matric results in the Independent Examinations Board, and our stream of top positions in Junior and Senior Olympiads bear eloquent testimony to how seriously we take this challenge.
Cultural Enrichment
The cultural activities at St Dominics area a rich tapestry of colour and activity woven into our daily school routine.
Sporting Prowess
We have deservedly fine reputation on the sports field with so many of our pupils winning local, provincial and national sporting awards. More important, we believe that 'A healthy Mind is a Healthy Body', and we encourage all of our pupils to take full advantage of our excellent sports facilities.
Community Outreach
We remain ever mindful of how privileged we are to be at this school, and do everything we can to reach out to those less fortunate than ourselves. Most important of all is that you and your child have fun at our school. It can be and should be an enjoyable experience, and it will be if we all invest time and effort.
